The Intergenerational Trauma program will improve the well-being of urban Indigenous community members as they seek to improve their mental health, reduce any harms associated with their behaviours, resolve traumas sourced from the Indian Residential School system, and pursue a Good Mind.

Objectives

The Intergenerational Trauma program is responsible for the coordination, management and continuity of the Odawa Native Friendship Centre’s (ONFC) programs and services which contribute to healing intergenerational traumas, particularly those caused by Indian Residential Schools.  

Activities

The Intergenerational Trauma program is designed to deliver primarily client and participant-based services to Aboriginal individuals, families and children. The priority focus of programming is related to those affected by the impact of residential schools and colonization.

Client-based activities

Client-based activities include the following:

  • Peer Counselling;
  • Referrals;
  • Traditional and Cultural Support.

Assisting clients who are affected by:

  • Indian Residential Schools;
  • Colonization;
  • Intergenerational Trauma.

Participant-based activities include the following:

  • Workshops;
  • Presentations;
  • Traditional and Cultural.
